Another day dawns giving me the opportunity to stand up for myself. And, I did. I stood up for myself and 51% of the population; all the girls and women in our nation.
Earlier this afternoon, I sent out a message to everyone in a gamer group I belong to (100+ people) on the server. It may be deleted or I may be kicked from the server. Not sure. But, I couldn't hold back. I encouraged everyone, especially the men in the group (because let's face it, it's 95%+ men in there), to VOTE!
The lives of the women in their lives depend on them voting. This is not hyperbole. We need them to support us and our right to privacy, and access to full medical care. (I did not include these lines in the message.)
Minutes later…
As expected, my message in the “general chat” was deleted. And, I forgot to copy it, so now I can’t quite remember what I said. However, I DO remember, it was short. It wasn’t offensive. It was not an angry post. I didn’t bring up any specific issue nor candidate. I simply encouraged everyone to VOTE, especially the men.
And, look, I understand why the creator of the server did so. He has every right to decide what should be posted and not posted on his server, however, you should see some of the things he allows! As a woman, I am offended by some of them.
Sometimes I say something, most times I don’t. It’s easier for me to simply mute the channel so I’m not notified about new posts in that specific room. Muting is a feature to be used.
Anyway, the owner of the server wrote a message to everyone, then privately to me, explaining that he wanted to keep his server as a safe space for people, to escape real life issues. And, I totally understand that! I get it!
And, I never talk about politics or any other sensitive topic, but I felt I had to say something. I had already brought it up to him privately when we were in a channel, just the two of us, and he said, (like we’re hearing a LOT of men saying right now),
“My vote really doesn’t matter. I live in a blue state, always been a blue state.”
And, I admit it, I told him he *needs* to vote, for all the women in his life! His wife had a baby a couple of years ago and, luckily, they live in a state that doesn’t have an abortion ban, so if an emergency situation had happened, his wife would’ve been safe, but think of everyone who lives in a red or purple state that has bans!
Plus, I DM’d him a link to Michelle Obama’s message to men. I don’t know if I made a difference. He’s a good guy, but HE NEEDS TO VOTE! Today, he did say he was going to vote more definitively than before, and to vote Democratic.
So, after I read yet another post on Threads from a woman who pointed out this same sentiment in her life and in the media, about men being apathetic about voting right now, — and, erroneously, saying women are too! Wth? Do these columnists talk to any of the women in their lives? Because, I can assure them, women are NOT apathetic about this election! — and men not fully comprehending the gravity of our situation, nor realizing how enraged we are that our rights have been, and are being taken away from us, (I mean, jfc, we are voting to, literally, save our lives this week!), I took all of my frustrated energy and made this.👇 You can go ahead and share it if you want, but please don’t change it or remove my name and website. Thanks! 🙏
And, to all the men who are voting and have already voted for the women in their lives, I say THANK YOU! From the depths of my heart: THANK YOU! 🙏
Now, please go out and make sure your buddies do too. I know it’s hard to talk about this sort of thing with them, but we know you can do it! ☮️
